Professional Profile Presentation

Professional Profile Presentation

Here is a presentation and reflections on how my professional experience has impacted my placemaking story.  In addition, I looked through the different themes to analyze areas that could improve in the Bel Air Community from a professional/personal standpoint.

Professional Profile Impact

Learning Pathways that Bel Air were evaluated on

  1. Healthy Habitat- Strong
  2. Healthy People - Areas of improvement
  3. Resilient Communities - Strongest aspect for Bel Air
  4. Empowered Citizens- Mid level Strength
  5. Inclusive Prosperity- Areas of improvement

Urban Livability Challenges Relevance to my life and as a leader

  1. Healthcare Specialty Availability - Many primary care locations but specialty care.  Upper Chesapeake has a C rating with no NICU only a Level II- Specialty care
  2. Affordable Childcare Availability- Many options but limited part time options especially for infants
  3. Traffic and Transportation- Limited public transportation with only 1% of population using it as primary means of commute.  Most people drive alone so traffic flow is critical
  4. Urban Development - There are many areas that have strategic plans for redevelopment including potential Costco in Bel Air South and the Harford Mall.
  5. Diversity of People and Thought- Average age of citizens is 41.3 which is higher than the state average and most people have families.  In addition, women make up community workforce is 33.76% at that job level while in our government workforce it is only 21.98%

Multimodal Intelligence Leadership

Multimodal intelligence leadership capabilities are relevant to me as a leader in that there are many different aspects of my life that work to improve.  They are all very different and

Transformative Skills and Practices

I believe empathy and patience are two transformative skills of community leaders.  People need to be able to relate to others and what their challenges are.  In addition, I believe that the practice of giving to those in need is a critical leadership task.

Connected to people and organizations

I am not very connected within the Bel Air and Harford County community, but my husband is.  He grew up in this area but also worked closely with many of the leadership in his career.  I would like to expand my network beyond my husband's network.

Transform Your Life Today

Discover My True Potential

I aspire to be an innovative leader in my community.  Upon completion of my MBA in May 2025, I plan to become more active in the Bel Air community and non-profits.  I plan to explore joining Harford Artist Association, Bel Air Downtown Alliance, Harford County Chamber of Commerce and/or Asian Pacific networks in the area.  I also in general feel like a more empowered citizen just knowing more about where I live.

I prepare myself to take on the challenges of an innovative leader by educating myself on the community, expanding my network and thinking about the risks in the community but also how to mitigate them.  I am worried about the future development like that of the Costco and the revitalization of the mall but am also excited about how it may better the community.  I am inspired by the community feel and family friendly nature of Bel Air.  I have never felt more included in a community before living here.

Business and Profession platform for building a more livable world

I envision my business and profession as a platform for building a more livable world for myself, my family and my community.  I would like to have my business help educate about different Asian Pacific traditions and work with people on their fitness goals to help the overweight/obesity challenges.  I plan to utilize my facilities, construction and leadership experience to work with community leaders to ensure development is appropriate in areas.   I also want to show my kids how to be active in a community.

Livability Challenges and Opportunities

In the near future, I would like to start by working with the Rooted Willow Community (a nonprofit that supports parents) to help other parents especially single moms.  I would like to extend my dance services free of charge but also seek to be more active in that organization.

Next, I would like to expand my own fitness journey to work with others after getting to manageable post-partum weight to help other moms create diverse workout plans.  I would also like to get more people involved in the dancing and education portion of Pacific Tempo.

In the long term, I would like to expand my activities with construction, development and business in the community.

Learning Pathways

The learning pathways of the CityLab Catalyst provided me with the basic architecture of my story of Bel Air.  I am proud to be in a healthy habitat that has resilient communities and empowered citizens.  I think the biggest pathways for improvement are in the healthy people and inclusive prosperity aspects.  These are the main focus areas that I would like to work to impact.
