About Me and City Lab

I am working to grow as a community leader and engage in my city as leader.  There are many ways to define placemaking.  Some say it is about local values, and manifests culture to build visibility and power (Hynson, 2024). Creative placemaking leverages arts and culture with good design of a community (McCormick et al., 2020).  My entire life I have been an active member of multiple arts and diversity initiatives.  In addition, during my adult career I specialize in facilities, engineering, real estate, construction, automation and leadership.  The purpose of engaging in my city as a lab is discover more ways to leverage placemaking and my skills to make Bel Air a better community to live in.

Background

I was born and raised in Maryland.  I grew up in the DC metropolitan area and went to high school in the District of Columbia itself.   After having my 2nd child, my husband and I wanted to be closer to family so moved to his hometown, Bel Air, MD.

After high school, I went to the United States Military Academy after high school and served in the Army Corps of Engineers for 7 years.  During my time in the Army, I went to Afghanistan, Romania, supported emergency response for natural disasters and learned a lot about leadership.
